Career Planning for 15-30yr olds
How do you know what is a good fit career direction for you?
What subjects/courses should you be taking at school or uni?
What jobs will your qualification get you in today’s labour market?
The Smithells® Career Planning System was developed here in New Zealand by Tim & Juliana Smithells (Hamilton), to help teenagers and young adults (15-30yrs olds) make clear, strong and accurate choices about study, training and career directions. To date, fifteen thousand young New Zealanders have benefited from the Smithells® System.
As a licensed Smithells®NZ Professional, Lynley works with young New Zealanders to develop their career thinking during secondary school, to ensure they know the right subjects to take to give them their best possible chance of entry, and make good decisions about study and training options. She works with University and Polytech students who are unsure about their courses, and with young people in and out of the workforce who are seeking work that they will enjoy and be successful at.
How does it work?
Prior to working with Lynley, you need to go to www.smithellsnz.co.nz, to complete online Career Questionnaires and to request/confirm an appointment.
During your career planning session, Lynley will help you to :
- build up a clear picture of who you are and what is important for you, in making your career decisions
- identify a career focus and best fit career directions (including looking at how well any ideas you already have fit you)
- clarify subject choices and explore study/training options
- develop a realistic career plan that takes into account the realities of today’s labour market and opportunities
After your first career planning appointment, Lynley continues to be available to support you at key stages as you progress through study, training and out in the workforce.
What Lynley’s clients have said about their career planning sessions:
Thanks so much for seeing Georgie. Your consultation seemed to make a huge difference when she was agonising about her decision and we are grateful you were able to help her so much. Your advice is well beyond what we are able to give her! I know you have provided ‘light’ to other kids who have felt completely overwhelmed by planning their futures as well.
